Texas law: the shop is your choice
Texas Insurance Code §1952.301 prohibits an insurance company from requiring you to use a specific repair facility as a condition of settling your claim. Your adjuster can recommend a shop. They cannot make you use it, and they cannot deny or reduce a legitimate claim because you chose your own.
A "preferred," "direct repair" or "network" shop is a shop that signed an agreement with the insurer on labor rates, parts sourcing and cycle time. Those agreements exist to control the insurer's cost. Some network shops do excellent work. But the relationship means their volume depends on the carrier, and that is a different set of incentives than a shop whose only relationship is with you.
What we do on your claim
- Free written estimate — before you decide anything, including whether to file at all.
- Teardown documentation — photos of hidden damage that a photo estimate could never catch.
- Supplement filing — when torn-down damage exceeds the original estimate, which is the norm, not the exception.
- Direct adjuster communication — we argue about labor hours and parts so you do not have to.
- Parts advocacy — pushing for OEM parts where safety or fit justifies it.
- Rental and timeline coordination.
- Total-loss guidance — if the carrier totals the vehicle, we help you understand the valuation.
Should you file at all?
Not every repair should become a claim. If the total is close to your deductible, filing costs you paperwork and a claim on your record for almost no benefit. That is exactly why we give a free written estimate first: get the number, then decide. Note that comprehensive claims — hail, theft, falling objects, road debris — are generally treated differently from at-fault collision claims and often carry a lower deductible.
