Repair or replace?
Most modern bumper covers are thermoplastic, which means scuffs, gouges and even many cracks can be plastic-welded, filled and refinished for meaningfully less than a new cover. Replacement is the right answer when the mounting tabs are broken, the cover is torn through in several places, or when sensors and brackets behind it are damaged.
Plenty of shops quote replacement by default because it is faster and the ticket is bigger. We quote both when both are legitimately on the table, and we tell you what each one gets you.
Bumper and panel work we handle
- Scrapes, scuffs and curb rash — sanded, filled and refinished.
- Cracks and tears — plastic welded from behind, reinforced, then refinished.
- Full bumper replacement — including brackets, absorbers and reinforcement bars.
- Sensor and camera panels — parking sensors, blind-spot modules and forward cameras removed, reinstalled and aimed.
- Fender, rocker and quarter panel repair.
- Grille, valance and trim replacement.
- Truck bumper work — including chrome and steel bumpers.
Sensors and cameras change the job
A bumper on a 2018-or-newer vehicle is not just a cover. It commonly carries parking sensors, blind-spot radar, and on many models the forward-facing camera or radar module that runs adaptive cruise and automatic emergency braking. Reinstall those out of alignment and the safety systems either throw faults or, worse, run quietly out of calibration. We account for sensor removal, reinstallation and aiming in the estimate up front instead of discovering it on pickup day. If your vehicle needs a dealer-level ADAS calibration we tell you before we start, not after.
Bumper damage often comes with more behind it. If the impact reached structure, that is collision repair. If it is a dent with intact paint, paintless dent repair may be cheaper.
